Alex stared at his chair, the broken wheel still in his hand, his knuckle while from gripping it so hard. Tears sprang forth in his eyes, making his vision swim, and he began to shake slightly, so strong were the feelings of love, hate and betrayal coursing through him.
"You treated me like I was special," He whispered, his voice quivering, "You made me feel important, tall. You were my constant," his voice grew stronger, "No matter what horrific things might happen to me throughout the day, you were always here, promising me a soft, safe place to sit. Never before you had my butt felt so supported yet so comfortable. We could have taken on the world. We DID take on the world! The two of us grew from obscurity into popularity together! I never would have made videos without you. Sitting in front of a computer, filming and then editing was made fun with you, and only you. No other chair could have brought me so far!"
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath to steady himself, then in an uncharacteristic fit of rage he kicked the chair, lying so pitifully on the ground at his feet, causing it to wobble slightly but not move.
"You deserve is!" He yelled, kicking her again. He turned away from his chair, and lowered his voice. "No, that's not right. You just accept it. You're so pitiful, so easy to use, to own." He turned back around to look at his chair, "You were so desperate to be loved. No one could love you, thugh." He sat on the ground, next to the chair.
"But they did. I did. I thought I did. But I didn't want you, only what you were selling." He began trailing his fingers up and down her armrest.
"You were the one selling it, though. I couldn't have loved another's assets as much as I loved yours. Until you cheated. With tom. TOM! For fucks sake, a friend!" His caresses turned to blows, and once again he took his pain out on his broken chair, hitting her armrests, kicking her away.
"You're pathetic!" he cried, curling up into a ball as the tears overflowed. "I pity you. So desperate to be noticed, to be widely loved. I suppose you couldn't help it, when Tom wanted to sit on you, but you both enjoyed it so bloody much. I saw Tom, bouncing and twirling around, and you were shameless; just letting him go for it, encouraging him."
He raised his head to look at his chair through a veil of tears. "You're always wanted to be me, haven't you? To have friends, to be a part of things, to be able to talk to anyone. But I'm better than you. Now, I'm better than this. I won't let you drag me down!" He was yelling now. He grasped his chair firmly, stood up and threw it down, kicked it, tried to pull pieces off, until he heard a sound behind him.
"Alex?" It was Charlie. "I heard you yelling, and I just wanted to make sure you were ok." He trailed off uncertainly.
Alex turned, embraced Charlie in a suffocating hug and started sobbing into his friends shoulder.
"She cheated, Charlie."
Charlie looked worriedly at the chair lying on the ground. He made a mental note to himself that Tom, Ed and Liam needed to be told about Alex's....preferences. In fact, Charlie thought, in hindsight Tom may have sat on Alex's chair when he came over the night before. Poor Alex, what a betrayal.
"C'mon Alex," Charlie said cheerfully, "Let's have a cup of tea, and then we can go shopping."
My entry for RiverSongRegenerated's competition. I hope this fits the description well enough.....
